Why You Should Start a Blog – Even If No One Reads It

Let’s face it – most of the blogs online are entirely self-indulgent and only exist to feed the author’s ego. A smaller percentage of blogs are actually worthwhile to other people, and a smaller percentage of those actually make the author any money. If you think that acquiring readers and monetizing your blog sounds might be too much work for too little a chance at success, you’re right.

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start a blog. If you want to, go for it. And even if you don’t want to, you should reconsider. Here are some reasons why you should start a blog – even if no one reads it.

It’s a Cooler Form of Journaling

Blogging has developed and evolved into being much more than it once was – an online diary. Companies use blogs for promotion, and people write blogs that really give value to others. But that doesn’t mean your blog can’t still be just an online diary. Blogging is a much cooler way to keep a journal and record your thoughts.

Journaling can be healthy and beneficial to everyone, so why not make it more exciting than scribbling in a notebook? It is self-serving, yes, but that’s what a journal is anyway. If you’re going to keep one (and you should), try doing it as a blog, and your memories and thoughts will be preserved in cyberspace.

It’s a Fun Creative Outlet

There is so much creativity that’s required in keeping a blog. You can design a really cool-looking page, create awesome graphics, and do a lot of interesting things with the layout. If you know HTML or just want to learn, a blog is a great way to experiment and play around with different looks and techniques. It’s also a fun way to express yourself through your writing. Even if you don’t have any readers, you can pretend to as a way to push yourself to write interesting and high quality posts.

One Day Someone Might…

If you have the hopes of becoming famous, an expert in your field, or anyone of importance in any niche, it’s a good idea to start a blog now in preparation. One day someone will be interested in you, and they’ll want to know more. If you already have a blog in place, it’s a great way for people to learn more about you. They will also see that you’ve been showcasing your expertise long before you became known for it, and everyone will be that much more impressed with your longstanding efforts and dedication to your interests.

….And If They Don’t, Your Mom Will

If you start a blog, you can be sure that, at the very least, your mom and other important people in your life will want to read it. You can use your blog as a way to let your family and friends into your life, especially long-distance ones. Talk about what’s going on in your life, post pictures of your kids, and you’ll give the people who care about you a fun way to stay in touch.
